Frequently Asked Question

Why is my screen black and showing mouse pointer only?
Last Updated 2 months ago

To fix a black screen, begin with basic checks. First, verify all physical connections, including power and video cables (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.), and disconnect non-essential USB peripherals. Then, try quick software fixes: force a restart, use the Win + Ctrl + Shift + B shortcut to reset the graphics driver, and press Win + P to cycle through display projection settings.

If the issue continues, boot into Safe Mode. You can access this by repeatedly turning your PC on and then off to force entry into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). From the WinRE menu, navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings and restart into Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, you can:

  • Update or roll back graphics drivers in the Device Manager.
  • Uninstall recent Windows updates that may have caused the problem.
  • Disable the "Fast Startup" feature in your power settings.
  • Run a full malware scan to check for infections.
